Wu-Tang Clan founding member U-God, real name Lamont Hawkins, has announced a new memoir. RAW: My Journey Into the Wu-Tang Clan will follow Hawkins’ childhood days and also cover his rise in the seminal rap group. “It’s time to write down not only my legacy, but the story of nine dirt-bomb street thugs who took our everyday life—scrappin’ and hustlin’ and tryin’ to survive in the urban jungle of New York City—and turned that into something bigger than what we could possibly imagine,” Hawkins said in a statement. “Something that took us out of the projects for good, which was the only thing we all wanted in the first place.” The new book is set for a March 2018 release via Picador.

Last year, Hawkins sued his bandmates in Wu-Tang for $2.5 million, alleging that he hadn’t received royalties for over half a decade and claiming that he had not seen any money from the sale of the one-of-a-kind Wu-Tang album Once Upon a Time in Shaolin. His last solo studio effort, The Keynote Speaker, was released in 2013.
