JAY-Z Has Reportedly Turned Down The Super Bowl Halftime Show -

Shawn Carter, aka JAY-Z, released his new album, 4:44, at the end of June, and has only just begun to play the tracks live. Nonetheless, it is one of the biggest releases of the year, and gained more national attention than almost any other release so far. Therefore, it would make sense that he is getting plenty of calls about performing at a variety of huge upcoming events.

Hov is already set to be the musical guest for Saturday Night Live‘s season premiere, with Ryan Gosling hosting. And rumors have been swirling about the rapper becoming this year’s Super Bowl halftime show performer. However, it is currently being speculated that JAY-Z has turned down the NFL’s offer as a show of solidarity with Colin Kaepernick — the former San Francisco 49ers quarterback who protested police brutality by refusing to stand during the national anthems. Since then, Kaepernick has opted out of returning to the 49ers, and has not been signed by any other NFL team.

Complex reached out to the NFL for comment, and they responded, “no decisions have been made on the performer(s) and we are not going to speculate on particular artists.” Adding, “Along with Pepsi, we know that we will put on a spectacular show. When it is time to announce her name we will do it. Or his name. Or their names.”

Whether or not these rumors have any truth to them, we have no idea.

JAY-Z is currently set to head out on tour on October 27th with his first show taking place in Anaheim, California. Over the course of three months, Hov will crisscross the United States, with the concert series coming to an end December 21st in Los Angeles, California.
