Ever wanted to be The Weeknd? Well that’s probably not possible with our current technology. But now you can dress like him if you want. The Weeknd has teamed up with clothing brand H&M for their latest “Spring Icons” campaign.
The Weeknd doesn’t believe in icons, but he does believe in iconic clothing. He explains in the commercial, “There are things that I love, people that I like, but the concept of an icon can be a cliche, and I don’t like cliches.” He continues. “Iconic clothes become icons for a reason. They’re fundamental if you live them.”
The commercial was filmed on Los Angeles’ Sunset Boulevard in front of the Hollywood Palladium and at a glass house in the Hollywood Hills — and is as much about H&M as it is Los Angeles. Throughout the video, The Weeknd sports his ‘iconic’ black bomber jacket, which he told Billboard, “For my generation, the bomber jacket is like a replacement for the suit jacket.” He added, “It’s a piece that men wear every day, and it’s something that I would wear for any occasion, whether it’s on the street or going to an awards ceremony. For me, bomber jackets are smart, but they are also street and have a lot of attitude.”
Whether or not you believe that a bomber jack can be used as a replacement for a suit jacket — and we certainly suggest contacting whatever fancy event, restaurant, or club you plan to attend in your new garb before expecting it to just pass all dress code questions — The Weeknd-influenced Spring Icon campaign will be available in H&M stores and on their website as of March 2nd.
