Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours practically defined FM-radio in the late-‘70s. The group’s three main songwriters each carved out their territory as their romantic lives with each other were falling apart. Stevie Nicks had a touch of mystic (“Dreams,” “Gold Dust Woman”). Christine McVie wrote universal anthems (“Don’t Stop,” “Songbird”) and Lindsey Buckingham churned out dynamic pop confectionaries with undercurrents of emotional distress (“Second Hand News,” “Go Your Own Way”). Spinning tragedy into gold was clearly their specialty.
One of the Greatest Rock Albums of All Time!
Even though I didn’t grow up in the ’70s, this definitely deserved the Grammy for Best Album. It is what makes Fleetwood Mac an awesome band. There is not a bad song on here, and each one tells a story. Go Your Own Way, Dreams, Don’t Stop, You Make Loving Fun, The Chain, and Gold Dust Woman are the best tracks. In fact, it’s most of their biggest hits. Along with other great songs like Songbird, Second Hand News, and Never Going Back Again, this album is just flawless. It is Fleetwood Mac’s best and should be passed down from generation to generation. Even though Glee pretty much butchered these classics, it has given others a chance to discover the originals. Thanks for making this great music, guys. You rock!
This album is great from top to bottom. So great fleetwood Mac could never even come close to matching the success of this album. If you don’t have this in your collection you don’t know what your missing.
I don’t usually write reviews. Like, ever. But I am obsessed with this album and band. I grew up listening to this, and always loved it, but only recently I have fallen truly in love. The emotional trauma and work that must have gone into this album as they were all divorcing and breaking up produced some of the most emotionally-charged music I’ve ever heard. The lyrics and songwriting is mystical, meaningful, and beautiful. Stevie Nick’s throaty, strong, sexy voice is possibly the best thing I’ve ever heard. Lindsey Buckingham is so talented with the guitar. And of course, much love for Christine McVie/ Perfect, Mick Fleetwood, and John McVie. Thank you all so much for making this music. On a side note, I am a teen and no, we do not all listen to terrible pop music.

While most bands undergo a number of changes over the course of their careers, few groups experienced such radical stylistic changes as Fleetwood Mac. Initially conceived as a hard-edged British blues combo in the late ’60s, the band gradually evolved into a polished pop/rock act over the course of a decade. Throughout all of their incarnations, the only consistent members of Fleetwood Mac were drummer Mick Fleetwood and bassist John McVie — the rhythm section that provided the band with its name….
