Keith Urban takes country out of its comfort zone with Pitbull and Nile Rodgers. The New Zealand-born singer/songwriter has always pushed the genre’s limits—his 2013 album, Fuse, was inspired by Fall Out Boy and Madonna—but Ripcord is next-level experimentation, mixing backyard banjos, club synths, and classic rock power chords à la Guns N’ Roses. Genre-jumping doesn’t always fly in country music, but Urban and a crew of veteran producers keep it from feeling forced or inauthentic. Instead, it sounds like a mega-star testing himself after 25 years in the industry. “I won’t live with regret,” he sings on “Gone Tomorrow (Here Today),” an ode to his father who died in 2015. “Carpe Diem is the secret.”
After fuse, I hoped Keith would get the guitars and stunning arrangements back out of the closet. Gave this a shot. Generic pop. Nothing left of the amazingly unique Keith Urban. The Taylor Swift analogies, painful, but apt. This sound could be anyone. Still a great voice. Bland music. From such a brilliant rock/country standout. Bye Keith.
Enough of the Bro-Country crap!
So sick of songs of backroads, pickups, bonfires and beer.
BTW…this is a pop album, not country.
This album is going to be great. There ain’t nothen wrong with a little pop or hip hop-country. I LOVE today’s country music… BIGGEST FAN and I’ve narrowed it down to 5 groups. Country(Chris Stapleton) Today’s-Country(Tim McGraw) Rock-Country(Kip Moore) Pop-Country( Sam Hunt) and hip-hop-country( Chris Lane) who is a new artist and has a single called “Fix” that’s out right now and is awesome. So this album so far (3 songs) is 4 1/2 stars out of 5. Can’t wait. And everybody check out the album “Traveller” by Chris Stapleton. If you like classic country you will LOVE Chris! He also became a genuine celebrity, known for his good looks, his marriage to Nicole Kidman, and his outspoken battle with alcoholism….
