iTunes Review
It’s telling that the lead single to Train’s eighth studio release, “Play That Song,” is based on the 1938 standard “Heart and Soul”: The group has quietly built a platinum-clad legacy on timeless melody (“Drops of Jupiter” anyone?). a girl a bottle a boat is stacked with soaring hooks and carpe diem sentiments, from the moment singer Patrick Monahan encourages us to “take this moment and put it in a glass” on “Drink Up” to the closing fade of “You Better Believe.” Add a dash of samba-inflected sunshine on “Lottery” and a full-throttle, love-struck anthem like “The News,” and a girl a bottle a boat is blast of positivity from a band that loves being the bearer of good news.
Customer Reviews
Dear Uninformed Music Buyer
Train is not “ripping off” the melody to Heart and Soul. It is called a sample, and it is used as a nostalgic callback. Please actually understand that melodies are passed around and used in unique ways and that simply disliking a song because it was “stolen” is not a valid explanation.
Train
Album is great, times are changing. People complain old train is better but train is just trying to stay relevant and enjoy making music. None of you people are real fans or you would appreciate the fact they’re still making music period. The songs are good, listen to them a couple times then come back, they grow on you. 10/10 thank you pat
Why the hate?
Play that Song is a well put together song. People can rant all day that an artists music isnt the same, but they dont understand what goes into songwriting in the first place. I can say from experience that your writing evolves and changes and usually gets better over time, but for some reason no one notices this in many artists. This album is going to be far better than most albums that have been released recently. The train remains on the tracks and has miles ahead of it still to go.

The hits began drying up after 2003, but Train continued releasing material throughout the rest of the…
